Texas
Holdem is almost certainly the most popular and simple form of poker played throughout
the world, both online and in casino houses. Texas Holdem can be played with any
number from two up to ten players. The game is universally liked because of its
simple rules and speedy gameplay. A round of Texas Holdem is made up of four betting
rounds. Each player first receives two cards face down - these are known as hole
cards - and five community cards are then dealt face up for all players in the
game to use. The player with the highest five card poker hand at games end wins
the pot.
OMAHA
Omaha
Hi is itself a variation of Holdem that is becoming ever popular - and fast. As
with Texas Holdem, it can be played with as few as two and as many as ten players.
Again the game consists of four betting rounds. Each player in Omaha Hi is dealt
four hole cards, and five community cards are dealt for all players to share.
Each player must combine exactly two of their hole cards with three of the community
cards to make the best possible five card poker hand. A variant of Omaha Hi is
Omaha 8, or Omaha Hi-Lo. Omaha 8 is basically the same as Omaha Hi with the exception
that, rather than trying to only make the best high five card poker hand, players
can also try to make the best low five card poker hand as well.
SEVEN
CARD STUD
Seven
Card Stud is another popular version of poker which can be played by as few as
two and as many as eight players. Betting in Seven Card Stud consists of five
betting rounds, preceeded by an initial ante. Each player in a game of stud gets
three cards face down, and four cards that must be exposed for all players to
see. The purpose of Seven Card Stud is to obtain the best five-card poker hand
with the seven cards dealt. Like Omaha Hi, Seven Card Stud also has a similar
variant known as Stud 8 or Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo. It's again a variation where
players can aim to make either the best high OR low five card poker hand.
FIVE
CARD DRAW
Five
Card Draw is one of the oldest types of poker game. The game can be played with
between two and five players. Betting in Five Card Draw consists of an initial
ante, followed by only two rounds of betting. Each player in a game of Five Card
Draw receives five cards face down, and may throw away or draw up to five cards
after the first betting round. The player with the highest five card hand at the
end of the two rounds of betting wins the pot.
CARIBBEAN
STUD POKER
Caribbean
Stud is very different to all the poker game types mentioned so far in that this
type of poker doesn't involve betting against other players. Caribbean Stud is
different - everyone plays against the house, or casino, which deals and acts
as a bank. The house pays out on all winning bets. To win a round of Caribbean
Stud, a player has to only beat the dealer’s hand.
